Te Ahu o te Reo Māori means the future pathway of te reo Māori — a pathway that seeks to inspire and aspire for improved te reo Māori proficiency, acquisition and use across the education sector.
Te Ahu o te Reo Māori also provides opportunities for te reo Māori to be normalised and Māori identity and culture, to be shared and embraced.
Te Ahu o te Reo Māori is a government funded initiative by the Ministry of Education that offers a free te reo Māori programme to the education workforce of teachers, managers, support staff and whānau in all kōhanga reo, early childhood centres, kura, wharekura and schools.
In 2019, Te Ahu o te Reo Māori was piloted in four regions including Te Taiuru (Taranaki-Whanganui), Tainui (Waikato), Ngāi Tahu (Te Waipounamu) and Te Tonga (Bulls to Wellington).
