He Mihi

“Ka manaaki ahau i te hunga e manaaki ana i a ia, te iti me te rahi,

ā, ka tāpiritia anō e Ihowa he ngākau mārama.

Māna tātou e tiaki i ngā kino katoa, māna e tohu ō tātou wairua. Kia whakapaingia, kia whakakorōriatia tōna ingoa tapu i ngā wā katoa, i ngā wāhi katoa.

Tēnā tātou i ngā āhuatanga o te wā me ōna whakamātautau.

Honouring excellence in Te Reo Māori

Held at The Atrium in Hamilton, Friday 29 November 2024. TupuOra hosted a special celebration to mark the culmination of Te Ahu o te Reo Māori and to honour the extraordinary achievements of this pioneering initiative, which has revitalised and elevated te reo Māori within education communities across Aotearoa for the past four years.

Since its inception, TupuOra, in collaboration with its partners and renowned local mātanga, has achieved close to 10,000 enrolments, reflecting its pivotal role as the largest provider of the programme. From leading the inaugural pilot in 2018 to tailoring its delivery through Te Rekamauroa, TupuOra has supported the revitalisation of te reo Māori across regions such as Tainui, Te Tai Tokerau, Te Moana a Toi, Taranaki, Whanganui, and Manawatū.

The celebration also served as a platform for the official launch of TupuOra Academy, an accredited Private Training Establishment (PTE). This new venture will commence in Semester A 2025, offering bespoke qualifications in te reo Māori and tikanga Māori.

An evening of reflection and celebration with heartfelt performances and kōrero that captured the essence of Te Rekamauroa o Te Ahu o te Reo Māori, while providing inspiration with the next chapter of our journey with TupuOra Academy.

He Whakamānawa

Our growth as an organisation since our inception in 2016, has been as a result of the awesome support around us, that includes you and our amazing staff, some of whom are moving on to realise other opportunities in the new year.

Viniece McIntyre – Amo, Te Reo Rangatira

Viniece led delivery of Hauā Reo, Hauā Tangata, the language revitalisation programme that TupuOra is fortunate to run on behalf of Ngāti Hauā Iwi Trust.  As an uri of Ngāti Hauā, the role helped bring Viniece back to her roots, and make connections with marae and whānau that will go beyond the time and spaces in which TupuOra has been fortunate to have her.

Hekewaru Nathan – Ringa Auaha, Content Creator

Hekewaru joined TupuOra last year, and in that time has helped to build the profile, and marketing capability of the organisation through his role as one of only two content creators.  Having attended a number of events to capture tauira and kaiako in action, he will be a familiar face to many, and one that will be missed by the wider team.

Rangimarie Allen Kuka – Pou Ruruku, Te Moana a Toi

Rangimarie has been with TupuOra for the past three years, serving as the main ‘engine room’ for the flagship programme Te Ahu o te Reo Māori in the Te Moana a Toi, Bay of Plenty region.  Earlier this year, Rangimarie was also brought in to support with administration for our newly established TupuOra Academy.  These roles Rangimarie amazingly fulfilled throughout her move to Australia earlier this year.

Chelei Kopa – Pou Ruruku, Tainui

Chelei has been the engine room for Te Ahu o te Reo Māori within Tainui, supporting over 3000 kaiako and pūkenga and the leadership of programme Mātanga – Paraone Gloyne and Ngahuia Kopa. A huge task, and one that Chelei has managed with a great deal of calm and composure.

Kiwa Goddard – Pūkenga Matua

Kiwa has led the delivery of Te Ahu o te Reo Māori, and supported multiple te reo Māori offerings for TupuOra, since his appointment to the role of Pūkenga Matua over two years ago.  His energy, teaching skills, not to mention his musical talents and those of his whānau, have made a huge contribution to the look and feel of TupuOra, and will be sorely missed.

Kāti, e kore e ekea e te kupu te taumata o te whakaaro mō koutou, kei aku nui.  He iti taku iti, nā koutou.  Ko Aroha Nui me Whakaaro Pai hei hoa haere, i ō koutou haerenga atu, me ō koutou haerenga mai.

Meri Kirihimete

As we farewell members of our team, so too do we sign out for 2024 by extending our best wishes to you all for the festive season and the new year ahead.

It is difficult to express how grateful we are as an organisation for your continued support, from which we draw strength and excitement for the journey ahead.

In the words of the well-known rangatira, Rangawhenua:

Kia hora te marino, kia whakapapa pounamu te moana, kia tere te kārohirohi i mua i tōu huarahi. Ko tō hoa haere, ko te rangimārie

May the calm be widespread, may the sea glisten like the greenstone, may the shimmer of light guide you, and all in the company of peace.

Meri Kirihimete, me ngā mihi mō te tau hou.

Nā TupuOra.

TupuOra Closedown

TupuOra Office will closedown Friday 20 December 2024 and reopen in the new year on Monday 13 January 2025.
