Te Pōkaitahi Reo (Reo Rua) (Te Kaupae 1)
New Zealand Certificate in Te Reo (Reo Rua) (Level 1)
A programme that has been designed to offer ākonga an introduction into te reo Māori. It has been purposefully contextualised to offer a general perspective of key components of te reo Māori ideal for beginners. Four wānanga:
- This kōwae ako focuses on mana reo. This kōwae ako will focus on teaching essential foundational knowledge of te reo Māori. Ākonga will learn about the building blocks of the language and the beginnings of conversational language.
- This kōwae ako focuses on pepeha and the role that the reo plays in showing identity and belonging. Ākonga will learn the language associated with pepeha and explore their own relationship to the physical world as an expression of mana whenua.
- This kōwae ako focuses on te reo Māori as an expression mana tangata. Ākonga will work collaboratively to explore the language specific to whakapapa. The kōwae ako also explores familial structures from both a traditional and modern perspective, relating this to identity.
- This kōwae ako focuses on Mana Ao Tūroa, and how te reo Māori links to the wider world. Ākonga will work collaboratively to explore the language specific to time and how this differs from other languages, and how this affects the structure of te reo Māori.

- One evening class per week
- Online content to keep you engaged
- Can pathway into Te Pōkaitahi Tikanga: Kaupae 3 and/or Te Pōkaitahi Reo: Te Kaupae 2
- Qualified Te Reo Tutors
