PLD for structured approaches to te reo matatini — Rangaranga reo ā-Tā

TupuOra Education and Development Limited is an accredited provider to deliver The Ministry’s professional learning and development (PLD) for structured approaches to Te Reo Matatini, known as Rangaranga Reo ā-Tā.

This support is available for Term 1, 2025 – Term 1, 2026 focused specifically on supporting kaiako who teach ākonga in year’s 0-3, 4-6 and 7-8. We are currently delivering Cohorts 1-3, with Cohort 4 due to begin in Term 2 of this year.

This PLD will support teachers to use structured literacy approaches in the classroom. It will also support teachers to understand the principles of explicit teaching including: a gradual release of responsibility, being systematic, being precise, providing repeated and varied opportunities for learning, being cumulative, being diagnostic and responsive, and developing mastery and automaticity.

As part of the PLD for structured literacy approaches, teachers will learn aromatawai practices and how to use tools that align with these approaches to inform their teaching. Providers will ask teachers to share assessment data with them to evaluate the effectiveness of the PLD.

This PLD will be delivered over three school terms (a new Cohort will begin each term) and comprises the following:

  • Core delivery:
3 full day facilitated workshops, and 4 communities of practice (over one term)
  • Maintenance and support:
4 communities of practice (over two terms)
COHORT 5 dates: Term 3 2025 – Term 1 2026

He ngāwari te haere. He māmā ki te whai i ngā tohutohu o te Ara tohu. He rawe hoki kua whakahonohono i ngā taumahi akiaki ki ia akoranga.

Kaiako, Cohort 1

Kei te whanake pai taku māramatanga mō tēnei kaupapa te rangaranga ā tā. He nui tonu ngā kurahuna hei tūhura māku, heoi kua oti i a ngā kaiwhakangungu te whakapūrangiaho, te tahitahi i te huarahi e pai ai taku toro, taku rapu, taku tūhura i ngā koha nui ō roto.

Kaiako, Cohort 2

Safe, open, honest, environment. Encouraged to be real and be ourselves. Credit given to us as kaiako who know what we’re doing — this makes us feel good and open to the new learning. Great balance between the facilitators. Very valuable to go through the Rangaranga reo ā-Tā rauemi and hear what other kaiako and kura are doing. Brain breaks/boosts were fun.

Kaiako, Cohort 2

Absolutely wonderful having a kanohi ki te kanohi session with the whole whānau! I absolutely love how the kaupapa are broken down and explained with relevant activities attached. I really appreciate the time spent navigating the Te Ara Tohu site as there are a lot of components. The facilitation is excellent — both facilitators have a range of pūkenga and have a beautiful wairua that keeps the akoranga interesting. Wish we could have another!!

Kaiako, Cohort 2

The pace of this course — although alot to take in, the time spent and the pace ensures that the understanding is there. I have the confidence to ask pātai without feeling whakamā. The content and supporting resources are rawe!
